Abstract

In this article, we overview economic researches on macroeconomics and monetary economics published in The Economic Review, Volumes 31 to 59. The Economic Review published much excellent researches that investigated unique features of the Japanese economy in the field of macroeconomics and monetary economics. This is in marked contrast with top journals in the United States. Each country has its own economic, social, political, and historical background. Regional studies thus provide various lessons which general theory may not derive. This is especially true in the field of monetary economics where institutional factors are critical in economic decision makings. In Japan, a large number of studies have been done based on seminal papers published in The Economic Review in the field of macroeconomics and monetary economics.
