Description
The Hsiyuchi is an important and interesting record of the journey made in the 13th century by Ch'ang-Ch'un, a Taoist master famous for his wisdom and sanctity. Ch'ang-Ch'un was obliged to follow and advise the Mongol Emperor Chinghis khan during his military expedition in Western Asia. The journey lasted three years (1221-1224). The Hsiyuchi was not written by Ch'ang-Ch'un himself, but by Li chi-ch'ang李志常one of his disciples, who accompanied him and kept a diary of the journey. I used for my translation late Professor Wang kuo-wei's王國維excellent annotated edition. In 2002, I published the first part of my annotated translation as a separate volume in our college's series. The contribution in this issue of the Journal represents the sequel of the translation.
