Abstract

This paper analyzes how measures of Work-Life Balance (WLB) and positive action are related to corporate performance by using the data of small and medium-sized firms surveyed in 2007, 2009 and 2001 at Osaka prefecture. Especially, how the WLB policy connects with activities of female workers is focused on. Iin addition, how these policies relate to corporate performance is analyzed. According to the results, the relationship between the WLB policies and activity of female workers is disclosed, that is, there is positive correlation. The more the excecutives concern about WLB policy, the longer the sevice length of female workers. The more measures of WLB policy are implimented, the higher the proportion of female managers. Moreover, the more frequently these policies are used, the higher the proportion of female managers. On the other hand, it is not clear how WLB and equality policies relate to corporate performance. There is negative correlation between proportion of female managers and sales, while there is positive correlation between childcare policy and sales, and between measures of positive action and sales. Besides, weak positive correlation is found between degree of WLB and ROA.
