Description

Legalized gambling has proliferated recently in many countries and the prevalence of pathological gambling becomes a social pathological and public health issue. In Japan, soccer lottery is scheduled to start in 2001 as a new type of publicly-managed gambling. Relatively little is known about the effects of the advent of sports betting on youth gambling. This paper summarizes the major findings of prevalence survey of gambling among youth undertaken in the US, Canada and UK, and discusses measures to cope with the gambling problems among youth in Japan.
