As part of the author's series of the books and the articles focusing on the validation of individual cases of strategic management in detail, this article is aimed at validating major aspects of developments in the case of Nippon Steel Corporation, one of the distinguished Japanese manufacturing firms. The author's discussion is divided into five sections. Section A starts with a general discussion on the new developments, during 2000-2014, of strategic management in distinguished Japanese manufacturing firms as a whole to present the case of this firm within the context of the current bird's-eye view in the ensuing four sections. Section B identifies two major discontinuous changes in the global steel industry environment which have been forcing global steel manufacturers to dramatically reconfigure their strategic management and a variety of supporting strategies including M&A (merger and acquisition) strategy, in particular. It is followed by Section C in which salient characteristics of Nippon Steel's corporate growth and supporting strategies are clarified. In Section D, the remarkable development of its financing strategy comes into the spotlight. Discussions in the previous four sections ultimately lead to Section E which identifies strategic challenges for this firm in the next decade.
