It is necessary for every company to seek profit to survive, but is that the only purpose? Seeking profit is analogous as breathing. Most companies seek to help the public good by various activities; these are known as “Corporate social responsibility” activities. The discussion of “Corporate social responsibility” is considerably diverse. This paper proposes to explain the concepts of “Corporate social responsibility” and classify “Corporate social responsibility” activities. Firstly, “Corporate social responsibility” is reviewed within the context of business practice, and secondly, I argue my thesis from an academic perspective. This thesis asserts that “Corporate social responsibility” consists of two concepts. They are “social responsibility” and “voluntary action”. I then classify “Corporate social responsibility” activities under two concepts; one concept is “social responsibilities” in which the firm responds to expectations and requests from public opinion, and the second concerns “voluntar y action” in which the firm works voluntarily for the public good.
