米国の中等教育における家政教育の活性化を目指し,1974年から開始された教員表彰制度について動向を探ることを目的に,2001年から2011年までの11年間に表彰された181のプログラムを分析した。本稿では,近年,特に生きる力が重要視されていることから,キャリア分野に関する取組を対象にした。結果として,全表彰プログラムの中で,キャリア教育に関する表彰事例は,半数を占めるほど多いことが明らかとなった。また,他分野との複合した事例については,食物分野と保育分野に多くみられた。

This paper seeks to investigate trends in the educator award system introduced by the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences(AAFCS)in 1974 to promote home economics education in US secondary education. A total of 181 programs were analyzed, spanning 11 years from 2001 to 2011. The paper focuses on career area efforts in home economics education in view of the increasing emphasis on life skills in recent years. The analysis showed that of all AAFCS educator award programs, around half of such awards pertained to career education. Where awards fell into more than one category, the areas most frequently overlapping with career education were food and child care.
