説明

Abstract The term shakoshin , literally the desire for happiness resulting from chance circumstances, is used in relation to the regulation of gambling, in reference to a psychological state in which an individual desires property benefits by chance. In this paper, gambling is divided into three types for the analysis of shakoshin. (1) Touji type: The parties have no involvement in the result at all; (2) Hakugi type: The parties cannot participate in the result, but they can participate in selecting the target for a winning bet; (3) Yuugi type: The parties may be involved in the result to some extent or other. The factors contributing to the stimulation of shakoshin are classified as “reward expectation effects” based on the magnitude of property profits, “probability expectation effects” based on the probability of property being gained, and “internal control effects” related to the parties’ involvement. These three effects allowed us to identify differences in the nature of each form of gambling activity.
