Abstract

type:text

This paper presents the investigation and analysis on theories of culture in the Showa era 10's. In Chapter 1, the concept of "culture" and the preceding studies are examined as a starting point of the paper. In Chapter 2, theories of culture written by Kishida between 1935 to 1942 are reviewed. Following the discussion in Chapter 2, Chapter 3 extensively deals with the research and analysis of cultural theories in the same time. Finally in Chapter 4, the prospects of cultural theories, which were changing with the opening of the Pacific War, are examined. Through the examination above, it is verified that Kunio Kishida is a keyman of culture theories in the Showa era 10's. On top of that, the paper reveals that speech and writing by Kishida in the period had extended the field of culture, along with the shift of time from the "protection of culture" to "construction of culture."
