Description

(1) No amylase activity was found in the enzyme preparation of the salivary gland. On the other hand, in the mid-gut gland was clearly detected the amylase activity, optimum pH of which was found to be 5.0. (2) The amylase activity in the mid-gut gland was stable in the pH range between 4 and 8. (3) The mode of action of the amylase for substrate was quite the same as that of the becterial α-amylase, but different from that of soy-bean β-amylase. Monoiodoacetic acid did not affect the activity. Accordingly, it was considered that the mid-gut gland contaions α-amylase but not β-amylase.
