近年のインド経済発展の基盤であるにも関わらず,さらなる人口増加や生態環境の悪化から,存続が危惧される半乾燥地域農村の持続可能性について検討する。これまでのインド農村に関する研究の整理と短期現地調査によって,持続可能性を高める社会経済的変化と水環境などの悪化が確認された。将来的な持続可能性を検討するためには,自然現象から社会経済的特徴まで包括的に捉え,地域の特質を明らかにする,地誌学的な手法を採用することが必要である。

The rural area of India has contributed to its rapid economic growth in recent years. However, its sustainability has been threatened by the population growth and the deterioration of its ecological environment. The authors confirmed the social and economic changes leading to its sustainability and the deterioration of water environment based on the research trends and the short-term field investigation. It is necessary to take a research style of a regional geography considering human and physical elements on the field inclusively.
