<p>A new approximate solution has been proposed for diffusional growth and dissolution of cylindrical precipitates, for which practical exact solutions and useful approximate solutions are not available. The present approximation uses the solutions of the invariant field (steady state) approximation and the mass conservation conditions. The present approximation is compared with the numerical simulations based on the finite difference equation considering the moving boundary. It is shown that the agreement between the present approximation and the numerical simulation results is good for growth and dissolution of cylindrical precipitates.</p>
