Abstract

The aim of this study was to clarify the factors that influence the practices of school social workers (SSWs) in the Tohoku district through a survey. Specifically, the factors that affect their practical efficacy and sense of project achievement were considered. The questionnaire survey was administered to 99 SSWs in the Tohoku district; consequently, data on the practices within 66 local governments were obtained from 47 SSWs. A multivariate analysis was used to analyze factors affecting their activities. The analysis found that the working conditions of SSWs—the environmental factors surrounding their activities—had an influence on their practical efficacy and sense of project achievement. Based on the results, recommendations for improving the school system and the board of education as well as the deployment of SSWs are proposed to obtain practical efficacy as well as a sense of project achievement for SSWs.
