Description

We report a case of a 77-year-old man with senile dementia who came to care for his stoma by himself independently during a lomg hospitalization．After undergoing an abdominoperineal resection of rectum and colostomy,wound infection delayed his recovery and this prolonged his hospitalization generally,it is difficult to perform stoma care without any help from others for a patient with senile dementia；it is more common to do so with the assistance of others．ln this care,we made it possible for him to do it by himself independently by developing his ability and supporting him intensively and patiently．In addition,we think it is a great benefit for him to have reconstituted his life cycle with stoma care as its center during his long-term hospitalization．
