1. Economic Development during the 5-year economic planning period (from the 60s to the 80s) / After the Korean War broke out, the Korean economy developed significantly from the early 60s up to 1979 when the former president Park, Junghee passed away. Even during the 80s, Korea experienced this kind of significant economic development. During this period, Korea gad an economic growth rate of approximately 10%. This period is divided into decades and this paper summarizes the major characteristics of each corresponding period. / 2. The economic Crisis under the Presidency of Mr. Kim Young Sam (from the early 90s to 1997) / When Mr. Kim Young Sam headed the Korean government, he made some significant economic mistakes. Even though the Lorean economy made some progress during the early years of his Presidency, there were many economic scandals during his period in office. / 3. Financial Crisis and Economic Collapse (from 1998 to 1999) / The Korean Economy collapsed completely in 1998 and the resulting financial crisis meant that the IMF ruled over the Korean economy. Interest rose and exports went down so that the Korean government and the people experienced economic hardships. / 4. Economic Recovery after the IMF (from 2000 to the present day) / Under the control of IMF, Koreans felt many frustrations. However, they came together to overcome the financial crisis. Many new policies came to fruition so that the Korean economy is now on the right track.
