What Can Be Learned from the First Edition of <i>The Rikagaku Jiten</i>

Abstract

<p>Iwanami Rikagaku Jiten was published in 1935. Editor-in-chief was Jun Ishiwara. During preparation for its publication, the year 1932 became starting point of nuclear and elementary particle physics, later called "the miracle year of nuclear physics." Looking at the terms in the Jiten (1935) and its enlarged version (1939), it surprises us that each edition keeps readers up to date with the latest discoveries and theories.</p>
