Abstract

On July 5, 2017, training rainfall occurred and stagnated in Asakura city and Toho village in Fukuoka prefecture and Hita city in Oita prefecture, resulting in recordable heavy rain. In Fukuoka prefecture and Oita prefecture, severe damage such as 41 dead and missing people occurred. Large number of landslides occurred with this heavy rain, accordingly a large amount of driftwood was generated, many bridges were blocked by driftwoods and great damage increased.

Also, hydraulic bore and expansion of large-scale river width occurred, and significant geomorphological deformation was observed, which resulted in disasters of different quality from previous disasters. Furthermore, it is a disaster in small rivers, the time from the beginning of rain to the occurrence of the damage is short, disaster information is difficult to reach, and the importance of self-help and public assistance is re-recognized.

In this paper, I will describe such characteristic phenomena of the northern Kyushu heavy rain in 2017 and consider the river disaster restoration method.
