Description
This paper describes a numerical assessment of implantable medical devices (implantable cardiac pacemaker/implantable defibrillator) electromagnetic interference (EMI) triggered by wireless devices. By using three-dimensional full-wave numerical simulation based on finite element method, interference voltage induced at the connector of pacemaker inside torso phantom that is used for in-vitro EMI assessment is obtained. We discuss EMI characteristics due to irradiation by slot antenna comparing with irradiation by a dipole antenna. Furthermore, in order to validate the simulated results, we achieved measurement of interference voltage induced at pacemaker connector inside test phantom using novel electro-optic sensor installed in a pacemaker mock-up.
