Abstract
In the Japanese Academic Writing Support program (AWS), the sup￢porter works with learners to find a way to improve their papers through individual dialogue. In this paper, the authors reveal supporters’practical intelligence in terms of "pattern language" to extract and organize AWS patterns from multiple practical situations. The authors describe the process of creating a "thinking out of the box," as one of the AWS patterns, to show how we extracted important elements by focusing on the interactions in sessions.
