Abstract

We analyze the factors for nurses at home-visit nursing stations wishing to perform ultrasonography, and investigate their perceptions of ultrasound examinations. Those with less than 3 years of nursing experience expressed a desire to practice ultrasound examination more than those with more than 4 years of experience. The former may anticipate that ultrasonography would enable them to compensate for their lack of experience as a nurse. The hurdles are technical ability, image transmission, examination time, purchase cost. The training methods they want to receive are hands-on learning, on-the-job practice, and lecture. The pathological conditions for which they find ultrasonography useful were urination, pleural effusion, ascites, constipation, etc. Fixing scanning sites and findings as protocol would make technical acquisition easier and examination time shorter. Training should be aimed at urination, ascites and constipation, combined with lectures and hands-on learning. Ultrasonic devices need to have the required performance, be inexpensive and be capable of transmitting images.
