Myotis bombinus was observed to be roosting in an abandoned tunnel in the Tokushima Prefecture. The roosting was observed virtually all year round. The predominant roosting period was from April to November. The number of observed bats increased from March to May, and nursery colonies formed between June and July. The number of infants was about 40. The maximum number of adults and infants was 84-86, which was during the nursery period. Pup-births occurred from early to mid-June, and the lactation period was assumed to continue up to mid- or late-July. The number of bats began to decrease in September and only a few remained during their hibernation period. Trends were found to be similar to those reported from previous observations in Kyushu in terms of change in the number of roosting individuals and the size of nursery colonies. Periods of pup-birth and lactation seemed to coincide with or be slightly later than those observed in Kyushu. The detection of Myotis bombinus in this report is the second case in the Tokushima Prefecture, and nursery colonies have set an unprecedented record in Shikoku. During the present study, five other bat species, including Murina hilgendorfi, were found rooszting in the same tunnel. The record of M. hilgendorfi, appears to be the second case for this species in the Tokushima Prefecture.
