The objective of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of the leading edge fillet (LEF) on the secondary flow reduction and its reduction mechanism in the ultra-highly loaded axial turbine linear cascade with the turning angle of 160 degrees by using a numerical technique. In this study, the calculations were performed for four types of LEF which were different in the fillet height affecting on the loss reduction. The computed results showed that the application of LEF suppressed the horseshoe vortex by reducing the pressure gradients in spanwise on the leading edge and in primary flow direction on the endwall. As a consequence, the passage vortex which was developed by the wrap of the cross flow on the endwall around the pressure side legs of horseshoe vortex and the associated loss were also reduced. The increase of fillet height enhanced the reduction effect on the secondary flow.
