物理実験でしばしば教材として取り上げられる「メルデの実験」は, 一次元連続体の振動のパラメトリック励起の一例である。この系に対する非線形効果の影響について, 数値計算により調べた結果を報告する。励起された基本波モードの振幅はこの効果により指数関数的な増減をするほか, 初期値によって解は定性的に異なる振る舞いがことが示される。

A nonlinear effect on the vibration of a string excited through parametric resonance is analyzed by numerical calculation in orde to confirm the presumption, which has been deduced from theoretical results obtained by a perturbation method by one of present authors, that under a certain condition, periodical variation in its amplitude will be induced: the amplitude will repeat exponetial increase and decrease alternately, and moreover, in some case, whether the solution behaves in this way or not will also depend on its initial condition. It seems that the results of our numerical calculation confirm considerably well our presumption.
