Abstract

The shin-sanshitsu does not currently exist but its foundation remains until this day. This paper aims to restore the floor plans and structure of shin-sanshitsu of Tajima Yahei Sericulture Farm by studying historical documents, the main building (omoya) and similar buildings in nearby areas. It is revealed that shin-sanshitsu is a large two-story building spanning 24.7m by 13.4m with a tiled hip roof and a 15.0m by 3.8m large monitor roof (yagura) on top. Structural development of the front balcony and monitor roof openings were also understood in this study. However, the arrangement of interior columns is still unknown.
