Abstract

<p>This is an accommodation facility built by The Japan Steel Works on the occasion of the visit by Crown Prince Yoshihito to Hokkaido in 1911. It is still used by the company as a guest house for important visitors. In this project seismic retrofit, renovation of building was carried out on the Western-style building. There were two intentions, ① to carry out seismic retrofit so that none of the strengthening members could be seen, and ② to reuse valuable existing materials, with the aim the external appearance and valuable interior be preserved as they have been maintained to date.</p>
