Abstract

<p>Bangladesh, unusually as an LDC, has strong pharmaceutical industry. By utilizing privilege given for LDCs under the TRIPS, Bangladesh companies can produce patent protected drugs and sell them as “generic drugs” in the country and other countries. Partly due to good business performance of the pharmaceutical industry, Bangladesh achieved rapid economic development over the past decades, and is scheduled to graduate from LDC in 2026 at the earliest. This study will examine the current status of Bangladesh pharmaceutical industry and then examine the impact of graduation from LDC on the industry.</p>
