Abstract

In this study, we conducted two experiments in which subjects were rewarded (gain frame)or fined(loss frame)from the perspective of prospect theory. In both experiments, the subjects worked on anagram tasks in which their cheating was possible, and they were financially rewarded or fined in proportion to the number of their answers. These experiments revealed that people are more likely to exhibit unethical behavior in the loss frame than in the gain frame. It was also found that the self-concept maintenance theory can be applied not only to the gain frame but also to the loss frame. However, this paper suggests that if a particular anchor strongly affects the subjects, their maximum cheating behaviors increase contrary to the self-concept maintenance theory.
