新しい資格試験GCSEの導入に伴う文学教育の実際と課題を明らかにする一途として,ロンドンの某コンプリヘンシブ中等学校のGCSE国語科カリキュラムの詳細を報告し検討する。
The General Certificate of Secondary Education(GCSE),the new examination system was introduced to the English secondary education in 1988. The use of coursework in assessment seems to imply one of the great changes is curriculum practice with the introduction of GCSE, although internal assessment was remarkably expanded with the arrival of CSE in the 1960s. This paper is intended to present a GCSE English curriculum demonstrated in a London comprehensive school from September 1987 through June 1989. A thorough analysis is given to its curriculum stracture based on literary texsts and also to some coursework assignments written by students, examining the way of the interrelatedness of the modes of language, the way of encouraging students both to express a personal response and to recognize and appreciate the ways in which writers use language and achieve their effects, and the provision of a wider range of texts.
