Abstract

[Objective] We report our experience in a robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RALP) using da Vinci Xi system with recently launched instruments, which enabled us to reduce required numbers and exchange frequencies of surgical forceps, and eventually saved the surgical cost.

[Methods] We used Force Bipolar as a bipolar forceps for left hand, and a ProGrasp forceps on an extra arm was replaced by a SynchroSeal. We also replaced 2 Large Needle Drivers for both hands with a single Large Needle Driver for right hand.

[Results] This new instrument set enabled us to perform prostatectomy, urethro-vesical anastomosis, and lymph node dissection similar to the conventional instrument set, and also reduced the instrument cost at 49,666 JPY per surgical procedure.

[Conclusion] Use of Force Bipolar, which has bipolar forceps function with strong prehension, combined with SynchroSeal for fine tissue stripping and resection could reduce frequencies of forceps exchange and the surgical cost for RALP procedure.
