<p>The amount of dietary phosphorus has increased considerably, primarily due to the phosphorus-containing additives in the convenience and fast foods. However, there is no report comparing the calculated phosphorus content in the lunch box purchased from a convenience store with the analyzed value. To establish such a comparative study, the phosphorus contents in the lunch boxes purchased from convenience stores were determined by chemical analysis (molybdenum blue method), and compared with those estimated based on the Standard Tables of Food Composition in Japan, 2015 edition. The calculated phosphorus content was 259 mg±37 mg (mean±standard deviation (SD)) while the analyzed content was 320 mg±76 mg (mean±SD). The correlation coefficient between the calculated and analyzed values was 0.604 and the slope obtained from the equation was 1.261. These results indicate that the calculated phosphorus content in a lunch box using the Standard Tables of Food Composition in Japan was lower than the actual phosphorus content.</p>
