Abstract

A wrist-worn inertial motion-sensing device for an electric guitar-playing lesson class has been investigated. Musically correct accented chord strumming technique can be determined in terms of rhythm, sharpness, and playing form by processing the motion signals with an ordinary PC. 17 students from a music school participated in the 5-time series of a 1-hour-long lesson while wearing the wrist-worn device. Application software may visualize the guitar strumming skill acquisition process without introducing time-consuming work. As a result, the proposed system may add objective points of view for both learners and teachers in a music lesson class.
