Description

A 13-year-old female patient presented at our department with a chief complaint of a tumor in the fourth ventricle observed during CT examination of a head injury. The patient was alert during the examination and exhibited no neurological deficits. A head CT revealed a 2-cm tumor with calcification in the fourth ventricle and no accompanying hydrocephalus. MRI demonstrated high- intensity regions on FLAIR and T2WI and isointensity regions on T1WI without any contrast effect. Based on these findings, the patient was diagnosed with ependymoma and underwent craniotomy for tumor resection. The final diagnosis based on histopathological evaluation confirmed the occurrence of a central neurocytoma. The patient did not exhibit any recurrence despite the lack of additional treatment. Although the development of a central neurocytoma in the fourth ventricle is rare, it should be considered during differential diagnosis.
