Description

This paper aimed to discuss the career of the master carpenter (Touryou), Yamada Gen-ichi, who had a connection with HARA Sankei, and to consider characteristics of his works. He built houses and tea rooms. In particular, “Inakaya” (country cottage) were his specialty field. In addition, there was a common renovation method that seems to be Yamada's style. While based on“Minka”(Japanese Folk House), it adds an element of Sukiya as a tea room. In addition, modern elements such as new materials and earthquake resistance are actively incorporated to create a harmonious collection.
