Description

This study examined changes over time in a survey of terms recognition that conducted every year at the beginning of a class entitled “Psychology, physiology, and pathology of people with visual impairment”. The survey items included 20 to 30 items such as “blindness, low vision, Landolt ring, goal ball”. The answer options were “I donʼt know, I have heard of the term, or I know some about it”. The results showed that “blindness, low vision, tactile walking surface indicators, white canes, large-print textbooks, universal design” had stable and high recognition, “glare/photophobia, nystagmus, Dialogue in the Dark” had low recognition, and “printed characters, DAISY, clock position, assistive technology, DO-IT Japan, visibility, magnifying reading devise, Act for the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities” had an increasing recognition trend. “Dark adaptation/light adaptation, tactile map, ICF” showed a downward trend in recognition. Background factors that could influence the results were discussed.
