Description

WHO guidelines recommend that all adults with chronic diseases engage in regular physical activity. Furthermore, the effects of physical activity on decreasing earlier death with any causes or cardiovascular disease incidence have been reported, and guidelines for physical activity are provided for each age group. In this review article, we describe a survey of the relationship between physical activity and physical function in patients with cardiovascular disease, particularly 6-minute walking distance. Literature was searched using CiNii Articles and Medical Journal web for Japanese, and PubMed and Google scholar for English. The keywords were “cardiovascular disease,” “physical activity,” and “gait test.” Nine English-language articles were extracted and were classified as being in the phase of the ambulatory. In these studies, those who increased their physical activity improved their 6-minute walking distance, and those who were more physically active showed less decline in physical function.
