Abstract

A male in his 60s without diabetes history had gastrointestinal symptoms one week before hospital admission. Dysarthria and erratic behavior were also observed, so his family called for an ambulance. Emergency services suspected acute stroke and transported him to a stroke center. The patient entered a shock state soon after admission and was diagnosed with fulminant type 1 diabetes. He received intensive care and had a good outcome. Fulminant type 1 diabetes has a variety of symptoms and progresses rapidly. Therefore, differential diagnosis of fulminant type 1 diabetes is necessary for patients who are assumed to have another disease.
