Abstract

A 44-year-old man presented to the emergency department with a sore throat from the previous night. He had no medical history or smoking history. Laryngoscopy revealed swelling on the left side of the epiglottis. The next day, contrast-enhanced CT showed an abscess cavity with emphysema. After tracheal intubation, incisional drainage was performed. The patient was extubated the day after surgery and discharged without complications on the 8th day. Imaging studies should be considered when epiglottis abscess is suspected, and if emphysema is present, a prompt incision and drainage procedure is recommended.
