Abstract

This study adopts panel data to analyze the efficiency of Japanese sewerage industry. We conduct metafrontier analysis to consider the differences in sewage removal types. As a result, we found that the actual cost of the sewerage company group that flush waste and rain water into separate sewer pipes deviates from the minimized cost compared to the group that flush waste and rain water into same sewer pipes. Therefore, sewerage companies that use only separated sewer pipes should reduce costs.
