<p> Background: Soft tissue sarcomas (STS) are rare; therefore, it is important to accumulate data regarding treatments used and prognosis of this malignancy. In this study, we investigated the characteristics and outcomes of multimodal therapy for STS at Tokushima University Hospital.<br> Methods: We investigated 58 patients with STS who underwent resection at our hospital. We analyzed classification, treatments administered, prognosis, and postoperative functional outcomes.<br> Results: We found that 20.7% of the tumors occurred in the head and neck region, 84.5% were superficial lesions, and 32.8% were intermediate malignancy. All patients underwent extensive resection, and 35 patients underwent reconstruction using skin flaps. Adjuvant therapy was administered 13 patients. Local recurrence and metastasis rates were 6.9% over a median follow-up of 50 months, and the 5-year survival rate was 96.7%. The mean Musculoskeletal Tumor Society score was 85.3 in the 10 patients who underwent functional reconstruction using muscle flaps.<br> Conclusions: Although the rates of the patients with head and neck region, intermediate malignancy, and superficial tumors were relatively high in the present study, our findings suggest that adequate extensive resection and reconstruction using skin flaps were associated with favorable prognosis and postoperative function.</p>
