Description

This study focuses on Effectuation, a principle of entrepreneurial behaviour‚ as an effective logic for the creation of new markets‚ new developments in traditional industries and regional revitalization through tourism. As a case study‚ the analysis focused on Bed and Craft‚ an accommodation business of CORARE ARTISANS JAPAN, run by architect and entrepreneur Tomotsugu Yamakawa. The research method was a semi-structured interview with Mr Yamakawa based on data collected from previously published interviews‚ lectures and SNS. Effectuation was used as the analytical framework and narrative analysis as the inferential technique. The results confirm that entrepreneurial effectual behaviour and decision-making is cumulative in the process of business creation‚ development and turnaround and the creation of new markets. It was also found that the entrepreneur shifted his identity and paradigm‚ which led to intersubjective behaviour‚ which largely drove Effectuation. The analysis indicates that the key to business growth is the development of strong mutual empathy and equal relationships with local residents and business partners‚ and the pursuit of high value-added services.
