This research aims to compile a list of conceptual metaphors and metaphorical expressions in elementary school textbooks with the objective of providing a reference for individuals who teach and support culturally and linguistically diverse students in subject learning. This paper intends to report the results of a survey and analysis and to compile a tentative (nondefinitive) list of metaphors in lower-grade textbooks. The list implies that students in lower grades are learning the way of understanding and experiencing unfamiliar (abstract) objects in terms of physical (concrete) objects, although they are at a stage of expanding familiar vocabulary from the viewpoint of vocabulary learning.
