Abstract

A 20-year-old man was stung on his right hand by an Amazonian freshwater ray obtained via an Internet auction. He presented to our department because of pain and swelling of his right hand. After cleaning the wound, the pain decreased. The widespread use of the Internet has made it possible for anyone to purchase freshwater rays, regardless of location. Therefore, there is a risk of similar cases of freshwater ray bites potentially occurring among the general public who are not familiar with freshwater rays. There are few cases of freshwater ray bites, and the clinical features remain unclear.
