Abstract

We attempted to identify the clinical symptoms associated with suspected osteochondral injuries in cases of a so-called sprained ankle joint. We retrospectively examined the medical records of 67 patients with a sprained ankle joint who had been examined by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and found that 27 (40.2%) of them had osteochondral injuries. Of the 45 patients who complained of increased pain during walking, 22 (48.9%) had osteochondral injuries. Osteochondral injuries should be suspected in patients with a so-called sprained ankle joint who complain of increased pain during walking.
