Abstract

Purpose: We investigated the efficacy of Autologous Protein Solution (APS) for knee osteoarthritis (KOA).

Methods: A total of 310 knees injected with APS were evaluated using Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) and Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) before and 1 to 24 months after the APS injection. The follow-up rates and changes over time were evaluated separately for the overall subject population and for patients divided into two groups according to the Kellgren-Laurence (KL) classification (Grade 2/3 and Grade 4 KOA groups).

Results: The NRS score and KOOS improved significantly in the overall subject population after the APS injection. The follow-up rate was significantly lower in the KL4 group than that in the KL2/3 group. The NRS and KOOS improved significantly following the APS injection in the KL2/3 group, but not in the KL4 group.

Conclusions: APS injection was effective for KOA, especially in patients with KL grade 2/3 KOA.
