Abstract

This paper is a study of the relationship between the appearance of the characters and the writer's writing movement in the Cai hou board script. In typeface design, the stroke is a clue for interpreting and expressing the originality of the characters while minimizing the variations in the appearance of the characters. Typeface designers interpret their styles by imagining the brush strokes and writing movement. The Cai hou board typeface is predates the establishment of the brush stroke method. To extract clues for interpret the style that replaces the brush stroke method, the appearance of the characters was observed by tracing. The results suggest that the movements associated with the natural grip of the hand may have served as a guide for interpreting the style and unifying the writing movement.
