Description
type:Article
Idol fans support their favorite idols by performing idolatry activities, such as buying their merchandise, attending their concerts, and missionizing others. This study examines whether the fans’ consciousness of such idolatry activities influences their psychological ownership of their favorite idols. Structural equation modeling analyzing the data of 550 people reveals that three kinds of consciousness of idolatry activities affect two dimensions of psychological ownership. Although perceived controllability negatively affects psychological responsibility, other factors of consciousness significantly and positively affect psychological ownership. This study also investigates the causality between fans’ consciousness of idolatry activities and their well-being by formulating alternative models. It finds that fans’ well-being is not the cause but the result of their consciousness of idolatry activities. Keywords: idolatry activities, psychological ownership, well-being.
