Abstract

Landscape architecture was founded on the creation of public space in modern civil society. While public space results from democracy and fair distribution of resources, the gardens that are the subject of historical research in landscape architecture include examples that were owned by those with concentrated power and wealth in each period or used as spaces of indoctrination in the colonies. With these issues in mind, this study focuses on how gardens have been treated in landscape architecture studies and how historical perceptions of them are linked to the value formation of landscapes and what problems they contain.
