Abstract

This paper focuses on the zone of visual influence for offshore wind farms through simulations in Ishikari Bay. The main conclusions are as follows. For magnitude "high", the longest distance of an offshore wind farm was estimated to be 18.5km (height 335m, 0.97°) and the lowest angle was estimated to be 0.77° (height 187m, distance 13.0km). For magnitude "medium", the longest distance was estimated to be 24.4km (height 335m, 0.69°) and the lowest angle was estimated to be 0.45° (187m height, distance 20.4km). It was noted that for the same amount of power generation, a lower height would reduce the visual impact on each municipality in Ishikari Bay, even if the number of wind farms increased.
