Abstract

Yoshihama area of the Yugawara coast located in the western part of Kanagawa Prefecture has been used for a bathing beach for a long time. Recently, rapid shoreline recession occurred when storm waves associated with T1919 hit this area on 12 October 2019. To investigate the cause of beach erosion, the shoreline changes were investigated using aerial photographs and satellite images together with the field observations. Moreover, the results of Airborne Lidar Bathymetry conducted in December 2020 and bathymetric survey data in March 2005 were compared. The results of the analysis showed that the rapid shoreline recession was triggered by rapid seaward sand transport during T1919. However, after this storm, calm wave condition continued during February and December in 2020, and receded shoreline returned to the original position before typhoon.
