Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of wind on run-up height of irregular waves through a series of hydraulic experiments with a two-dimensional flume. This study also proposed an equation for calculating the wave run-up height under wind blowing conditions. The incident wave conditions were set where no clear wave breakings occur in the process of wave propagation to wave run-up in the flume. Waves propagating in the flume are amplified by the effect of wind and it causes the increase of the wave run-up height. This tendency is conspicuous in shorter period waves. In addition, a relative run-up height, which is normalized by wave height at the foot of a revetment model, shows a linear decreasing tendency against a surf similarity parameter. This study proposed the equation for calculating the relative run-up height of irregular waves including wind speed as a parameter, and confirmed the agreement between calculated values and measured ones.
